Class Notes.

Put the "Barbarian" style chalice in for bisque today, glazed the vase and Odhal rune mug. Odhal means in a sense inheritance. A fitting mug, I think.

Today was a decent day, not a bad day, not a great day - just a day throwing clay which axiomatic as it might sound is a great day. I made and finished a pitcher, which someone asked me for their birthday. The last one I made like this didn't survive the Kiln Goddess. I hope this one will. I think this one is better than the first but we will see what will be.

Allergies are to blame for most of todays' meh-ti-tude.

Kiln Gifts

I has pots! ...

The pots are all decorated according to the same standard; a liner glaze (in this case Ellens' Blue or Bermuda Green) and the outside done in Red Iron Oxide (antiqued) and Soda Ash.

Strawberry Pot
This one is for my kids, Isabella, Destiny and Sebastian. I'd Include AJ but he doesn't eat Strawberries.

I like the way it turned out, although I could have wished someone hadn't bumped my board and flattened one side of bowl. Ah well, it is what it is ... all in all I think it turned out rather well.

Next on the list is the Medium sized bowl I put together, again I used Ellens' Blue and this one is
Medium Bowl

rather light. I am not necessarily a fan of light. Two reason's; first light equals hot to the touch if you put something hot into it. Ouch! Secondly, I personally like substance. It's not wrong of course the way it is ...

I especially like the way the glaze runs down from the rim, and I like the play of Red Iron Oxide and Glaze on the pot

Cereal Bowl
There are two new cereal bowls, however; I think the Soda Ash fluxed the Bermuda Green liner glaze a little much, its either that or its over fired and I don't think so - one because I know the people who fire the kiln and the care they take in doing so, secondly no other pots came out like these - leading me to the conclusion its the soda ash.

Both bowls have the bubbling -- thankfully on the outside, but in order to fix it I need to take a dremel to it, and grind off the bubbles so no one gets glass in their cereal. Glass in the cereal would be a BAD thing, anyways Bermuda Green always messes with me, essentially I need to find a better liner glaze which is a pale or pastel green.
Cereal Bowl

Lastly I did a cereal bowl with an Ellens' Blue liner glaze. This one has a pattern banding the bowl a little down from the rim.
